The Best Way to Safely Ship Your Device to us

Shipping and Packaging for Data Recovery

If you'd like to ship your media to us rather than dropping it off at one of our locations, you can do so by following the instructions below.

  1. Preparation: Let your sales representative know you'd like to ship your media to us for evaluation/recovery services. They'll provide you with the address you'll need to put on the shipping label.
  2. Choosing a Carrier: Make sure you choose a reliable carrier. At Data Recovery Center we like to use FedEx or UPS. They're both reputable companies that offer accurate tracking information. Once you choose the carrier you'd like to use, print out your shipping label and prepare to package your device.
  3. Package Safely: If you need our services, chances are there's already been some damage done to your media or device. To prevent any further damages during shipping, make sure you properly package your media. This includes packing it with materials like bubble wrap or packing peanuts to help secure it inside the box. We also ask that if you don't ship any cables or external enclosures with the device; these types of things are likely to become damaged during the shipping, evaluation, or recovery process. If we require anything additional along with your media, we'll let you know. Otherwise, leave the cables and external enclosures at home.
  4. Shipping: Take your package to the nearest carrier location or set up a time and date for pick-up. Make sure you get tracking information and delivery confirmation with your package. That way you'll know when we receive it, and you'll be able to see if something is wrong if we don't.

A few More Packaging Tips

  • Use a Sturdy Box: Your best bet is to go with a box provided by the carrier you've chosen to ship your device. However, if you prefer to use your own box you can do so, just make sure it's sturdy and closes properly.
  • Protect Against Moisture: The potential for damages doesn't just lie in dropping your package, there is also the potential for water damage due to weather or bad conditions. Make sure your media is either inside or covered with something that will keep water out. Any water damage that occurs during shipping will only make the recovery process more difficult, and possibly more expensive.
  • Use the Correct Size of Box: Don't put your tiny SSD into a large FedEx shipping box, and don't try and fit a laptop into a smaller shipping box. Shipping in the incorrect sized box will only increase the chance of damages or other issues.
  • Secure Your Device: Make sure you wrap your device or use bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or other packing material to make sure your device doesn't bounce around too much during transport and delivery.
